The Istituto Europeo di Design of Barcelona has won the prize as the Best Exhibit Design in an international contest in which took part 7 European schools. The contest has been organized by the German Mercedes Benz car brand in collaboration with Wallpaper magazine. The prizes have been delivered the last week at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart (Germany). The first exhibition will be today, 9th of october at 20.00h, at the East End Studio, Studio 90 in Via Mecenate 84/10 in Milano. This event will be the first step from an international tour that will take part in the most important cities. This project has been done for a mixed student group coordinated by Horge Pérez, responsible of the multidisciplinary area at the IED Barcelona. October 20-21: the Specialization Courses begin - October 2008 Editions

Multimedia Workshop

FASHION MANAGEMENT & RETAIL Research Study Programme. Master Intensive full-time Master professional full - time, meant to professionals' formation of the global management in the fashion sector, specialists in management of product, visual merchandising and retail; The formative axis is based on the management of fashionable companies, the comprehension of the processes of creation, the management of the creative teams, the production and the distribution, the strategies of market and the trend research. PRODUCT DESIGN: INNOVATION AND MANAGEMENT, INTELLIGENT CREATION The master has as aim form professional figures highly prepared to think, to design products adapted to the complex and changeable reality in which we live; we provide new tools based to the designers in the investigation and creativity to be able to create and to manage products that stand out for its innovative and quality character. GRAPHIC DESIGN: strategic creativity The fluency in the global language of the design is key of the success in the professional world: the students of the master in Graphical Design of the IED learn this crossing in strategic key the ways of the visualization, of the creation and of the communication. The aim of the master is to qualify professionals to direct the strategy and the creativity of design, using a sinergic way the different disciplines (print, multimedia, space applications, wayfinding) and the most advanced supports in technology. (CS3; 3D MAX; MAYA; CINEMA4D) MASTER IN DIGITAL MEANS: MARKETING & COMUNICATION WEB 2.0 The aim of this Master is to qualify professionals to deal, to adapt and to transform the digital future of the marketing and of the communication. The new technologies of the information, in a constant change and development, have got strongly in the majority of areas of the human activity, acting as catalysts of cultural and social changes. The borders between the general communication and the marketing fade away: the consumer is who gives the orders, decides and even he manages to create the communication of the marks.. Our challenge is professionals' formation extremely prepared for the adjustment/ adaptation to this new environment and with big aptitudes to identify the new opportunities that from it will arise. 7000 sq. metres of Design, Teaching and Multiculturality

The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Barcelona has acquired the old MACSON textile factory as the future location for the school campus. The building, which has its main entrance in calle Biada, is located between calle Topazi and calle Verdi, is just 50 metres away from the current IED headquarters. The industrial structure and appearance of the MACSON factory building, together with its situation in the district of Gracia and its historical connections to fashion, make it the ideal location for the new IED facilities. The rapid growth of the Barcelona IED during its six years of existence required an important expansion of its space and, after a long search, the agreement which was reached yesterday opens a new period of consolidation, improvement and growth for the school. The MACSON textile factory was built in the 1940s on a site where a convent which was partially destroyed in the Spanish Civil War previously stood. The property owners, who transferred their factories to Tona, later extended their activities to the manufacture of clothing and are now also retailers, with over 80 stores throughout Cataluña. The building has an approximate surface area of 4.600sq metres, articulated around a central patio and consists of a semi-basement, ground floor, first floor and second floor which in the near future will house the classrooms, the workshops, the mediatech library, the Aula Magna and an exhibition room, where the best works carried out by the pupils during their six years in the school will be showed together with exhibitions by local and international designers. With this acquisition, the IED broadens its cultural offer, open to the city with new spaces designed for exhibitions, conferences, book presentations and other cultural activities all well as its teaching facilities. The building acquisition operation is divided into 5 phases and its posterior occupation will take place in a progressively manner. The IED will be able to access the 1.900 sq. m corresponding to the first phase of occupation during the 2008/2009 academic year. Once the complete occupation of the new space has taken place, IED will have access to 7.000 sq m of useful space. With this acquisition, IED Barcelona consolidates its position as a leading school in the world of Design. Equally, IED Barcelona renews and strengthens its commitment with Barcelona and believes it will continue to be a reference city in the word of new trends and design.
