More than thirty thousand people enjoyed the IED Bacelona proposals offered during The Brandery fashion fair last week.

Several Fashion Design students were showing in live the moulage technique, creating fashion illustrations and also were interviewed by TVE (watch at 1.05.37) and Com Ràdio!

Professionals and amateurs praise the IED show window of the OnTheStoreFront OTSF exhibition, designed by the Interior Design for Commercial Spaces Master coordinator Josep Ferrando and done by some Fashion Design students. And participants of Luciana Leveratto’s workshop wore incredible jewels designs made by paper.

The Workshops Week inlcude especific contents around management, techniques and applications on design; for exemple, we will see how traditional embroidery and textile techniques can be applied on variety and unusual spheres and mediums, how the common post-its are decontextualized to turn into of mural art pixels, or visual performances inspired on literal texts.

All workshops will meet students from different areas creating a multidisciplinary environment where teachers bring to them the design key to increase their knowledge of graphic design, illustration, photography, tipography, documentation, scenography, infography, management or Open Source. 

The Share your Talent from Visual Communication Area with the speaker Carles Moré and the Share your Talent from Design Area with Santiago Restrepo, are part of the 10th Anniversary and programmed specially on the evenings to promote the IED’s community network.

The Workshops Week activities ends with an exhibition of the student’s work done during the week.

Inés Vilagut, winner of My Own Show 2012, will present his menswear collection Le noir est une couleur in the next MI Milano Prêt-à-Porter. The prestigious company Falber-Moschillo has produced his outfits that will be exhibit on the Mipap+ space from the 24th to the 27th of February.

The designer’s project, selected by the Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozanni, is based on the study of the black color and the body. It is praised for the refined use of heavy and light fabrics, and clean lines that generate simultaneously opaqueness and transparency creating a movement effect.

There will also present the menswear collection Camera of Sante Bozzo from IED Rome, produced by Valentino Fashion Group and The broken wall of Vincenzo Lattanzio from IED Milan, produced also by Falber-Moschillo. Francesca Lancia from IED Roma, the winner of the Fashion Stylist category will present Refugens in collaboration with Vogue.it.

In this first IED Barcelona teachers conference, twelve teachers will launch
their professional profile to other participants for share and consider together some world  work aspects. IED BCN Teachers Conference: Share your Expertise aims to share specific knowledge, inspire professional collaboration and establish a teaching network.

Present topics will be discuss; online traffic, intellectual property or international clients acquisition, from several points of view across the speaker’s professional expertise. The same day teachers can visit the Workshop Week students exhibition.

Alejandra Anglada, graduated in Fashion Design at IED Barcelona, paraded last Tuesday 24th at MODAFAD Apocaliptic edition.

The spectators could enjoy the new looks of "Creatures All Over the City", awarded as the best collection in the previous edition. The designer showed a personal proposal inspired by foreign elements like mythological creatures of the Mexican crafts and Aztec culture.

From 24th to 27th of January will take place for the first time in Barcelona A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF), the international film and fashion festival. In this edition two IED Barcelona, Escola Superior de Disseny student’s films compete with other international schools. 

Graphic Design and Fashion Design students Daniel Thorsteinsson, Kolbrun Yr Gunnarsdottir, Cristina Tamborero and Lucia Coll, present The Clown and Like a dream come true, two original proposals inspired in the concept of to amuse, a play on words between muse and to amuse.

ASVOFF festival, created by the fashion guru Diane Pernet, will show the best short films around the fashion creativity and will offer thematic seasons, conferences and round tables in the CaixaForum of Barcelona.

IED Barcelona Escola Superior de Disseny will be again this year in The Brandery at the Brandtown space participating in OnTheStoreFront “OTSF” store windows showcase, by Nina Sibiratkina, Talta Schürmann, Julija Stankevicinte and Katarzyna Niewiarowska, Fashion Design students and coordinated by Josep Ferrando.

We will also organize a workshop, “Joies de Paper”, given by Luciana Leveratto on February, 27th at 18:00h. Participants of this creative experience will come out wearing their own recycled paper creations.

BIT and Deconstrucció projects from four IED Barcelona Escola Superior de Disseny Transportation Design students, were chosen to participate in the exhibition of industrial design specific proposals for the new units of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, organized by Alstom and FGC. The two projects selected for their originality and innovative nature will be exposed at Estació de Provença of FGC from December 22nd to January 9th

BIT project designed by Gerard Lorente and Marcel Moritz, stands out for its lighting and sign-spacing, inspired by the digital world where software gives to the objects their personality and function. The surfaces of BIT, Boundless Interactive Train, change to provide the information to the users, showing a great adaptability to any communication environment. The proposal offers a new way of understanding the communication between user and transport.

Deconstrucció is the project of the students Ruben Oya and Guido Dodero, valued especially for its interior design inspired by the Gaudí trencadís technique. There are three seats areas: rest, tabourets with individual tables and folding seats to provide flexibility and wide corridors. It also powers the Catalan landscape focusing the users to the windows where the information is projected.

If you are interested in studying an Official Undergraduate Degree in Design, BA (Hons), Diploma IED or One Year course, write at the Information and Guidance Service (info@bcn.ied.es). You have time until january the 10th 2012 to enrol and get a 10% reduction on tuition fee.

But if you prefer a Master or a Specialization Course, then write to the Master Department (master@bcn.ied.es). You will get a 10% reduction on tuition fee if you enrol to the course you choose before December the 20th 2011.

'Le Noir est une couleur' collection of Inés Vilagut, graduated in Fashion Design at IED Barcelona Escola Superior de Disseny, was awarded as the Best man collection in My Own Show sixth edition. The event, held last November 28th in Milan, is an international competition created and sponsored by the Istituto Europeo di Design and Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia editor-in-chief).

Twenty-eight fashion students of IED Milan, Rome, Turin, Madrid, Barcelona and Sao Paulo presented their 2011 thesis projects and only three collections were selected to debut at Milano Collezioni Donna 2012. The other winners were Sante Bozzo from IED Rome, winner of the Best women collection and Vincenzo Lattanzio from IED Milan also won of the Best man collection. Francesca Lancia from IED Rome was the winner of the new category Fashion Stylist, incorporated for the second time in the competition.

Inés Vilagut collection is inspired by Alain Veinstein writter ‘Say it with Flowers’ text, writing of the 1996 Maeght Gallery exhibition 'Le Noir est une couleur'. The collection shows a reflection of the black colour, like the designer says 'My light is the movement, it appears placing a static thing over a moving human body, it multiplies itself, it forms itself, and the black colour finally became a real colour, in a concrete shape”.

Last Friday 25th was held the Share your talent second edition at IED Barcelona, Escola Superior de Disseny. The initiative offers the opportunity to know first-hand the professional career of older school students.

Mike Davies and Jimena Azula, graduated in Interior Design, shared their professional experiences and successes with current IED Barcelona students. Mike Davies currently runs a property management company in the UK and has recently founded Studio P10, a design studio specialising in residential property design and consultancy. Jimena Azula is involved for several years in the film industry as an art director and she has been working at in the nautic sector. She currently resides in Peru where she created with other IED Barcelona alumni Ayllu Collective, a horizontal platform company dedicated to research and product development, architecture, photography, interior and graphic design.

The students group Kolectivo also shared one of their projects dedicated to the Screen Festival 2011 promotion.

Last November 17, 18 and 19 the IED Barcelona, Escola Superior de Disseny was the location of the Design Business Conference 2011. More than eighty international professionals from design and entrepreneurs from social business discussed about design business and its education.

The three days reflections showed the need of a committed and responsible design and the benefits of implanting educational parameters in the design education that include the learning of management and the reflection of the current society real needs.

Some members of the IED Advisory Board like the sociologist Derrick de Kerckhove, the designer and theorist Richard Buchanan, the IED Spain scientific director Francisco Jarauta and the Nobel Peace Prize 2006 Muhammad Yunus, led the workshop.

The event ended with an open conference where each board member showed the current need of new business models and the development of products and services for social business.

IED Barcelona will begin on January 16, 2012 a new Specialization Course, under the title "Spatial Design for Childhood Environments", will train professionals capable of developing sensitivity and awareness to understand and create locations to children.

Nowadays, the environment in which a child grows up and develops is increasingly taken into account. Architects, designers and artists are more and more requested to synthesize and to embody these concepts in key ideas for the evolution of early childhood education.

Through theoretical and practical lessons, the course gives students specific skills such Pedagogy, Psychology, Sociology or Ergonometric which applied to the conception and design processes, will provide a specialized approach in designing spaces for children in many areas.

The next November 17, 18 and 19 take place the Design Business Conference 2011 in connection with the opennig of the new IED Barcelona, Escola Superior de Disseny location. The event, organized by the IED and The Grameen Creative Lab, aims to develop the next generation of business innovators and designer entrepreneurs who can act as agents of change in the organizations they join and the new ventures they establish.

During three days, more than eighty international professionals from management and design schools, leading practitioners in design and management as well as entrepreneurs from social business, discuss different aspects of business design as the design thinking, the processes and models of designing business, its educational settings or the managing designing.

The workshop be led by the IED Advisory Board formed by the sociologist Derrick de Kerckhove, connected intelligence expert, Richard Buchanan, designer and theorist of international renown, Ken Friedman, renowned artist and expert in science philosophy and design education, Francisco Jarauta, IED España scientific director and Muhammad Yunus, creator of microcredit and Nobel Peace Prize 2006.

The conference will culminate in an open public debate the 19th at 11.30h with the renowed advisory board.

Last November 10th IED Barcelona opened its new location at Biada 11 with more than 1000 attendants. Students, teachers, staff members, designers, friends, parents and journalists knew and enjoyed the spaces with different activities that took place during the whole day. 

Alessandro Manetti, head of the school, leaded the press conference and the inauguration event where the vice-president of the Govern de Catalunya, Joana Ortega, and the major of Barcelona, Xavier Trias attended.

During the night, the opening party was filled of surprises as the mapping projected in the front wall of the patio, and a fashion show with outfits from former fashion students. Furthermore, former students of the Food Event Design course cooked and offered several caterings during the day with a creative gastronomic final performance.

Finally, the school hosts the exhibition of some of the best projects of the last 10 years designed by External Reference.
